When the transition to Nextcloud 13 or greater is made, I would investigate the inclusion of the NextCloud Talk feature set. It is so on point to your mission statement of secure private computing that if the hardware can handle it, it is a no brainer to include. Even if OPI/Keep would be underspecced for video chatting, I imagine they could handle the text chatting features.

Feature Request: NextCloud Talk
Re: Feature Request: NextCloud Talk
I totally agree with you , the capabilities of private chat / video is really something that we want and we have already some tests running.
For instance we have been running an XMPP-server for evalutaion (prosody) as well as running a web-based chat client (movim) on top of that, both on OPI and KEEP.
OPI struggles a bit with the web-client, but running just the XMPP server with about 10 users seem to work fine. So I do not see that the hardware should be a limiting factor, at least not for text based chat on KEEP, even if we go with another solution like the integrated Nextcould applications.
