Backup device

Post by hans345 » Mon Dec 08, 2014 1:36 pm

Hi,

the backup device can be a normal non externally powered usb hard disk or is the opi only accepting usb memory sticks?

Is the device then formatted by opi? Background is that on the my usb hard disk is already data which I don´t want to loose but there is sufficient space on the disk.

Best Regards
Hans

Hi Hans,

We have not tested with a USB drive, but it should work as it is presented in the same way to the OS.

The drive is not formatted, a 'backup' folder is created in the root of the device where the data is stored.

Hi Pa,

thanks for the answer. Is it possiple to disconnect the backup device not changing the anything with the "backup" folder and connect it then again? Will the opi do a full back up again or will it proceed with incremental backups?

Best Regards
Hans

Hi Hans,

You can disconnect a backup device and then reinsert it again and OPI will make a incremental backup as normal.
If you want you can also change between our online storage and an USB device and opi will do an check what is available on the target and make a backup depending on that.

Note that if the device is not present when it is time for the backup you will get a notification of the failure to do the backup.
